{02.14.12}

Last year, I said this about Valentine's Day and although a lot has changed I still feel the same way about today.  I'm a hopeless romantic.  Take time today to tell the people you love, that you really do love them.

The lovely and adorable Drew Barrymore in Oct. Harper's Bazaar.

If I only had a heart

If I only had a heart dress by Alexandra Grecco
(on etsy) aka Alexandra Greggo if you saw this on Splendora like I just did. It's OK, people spell my name wrong all the time.

More by her...

Full circle

Since the original objective of this blog was to find and post images of hearts, I thought I should present this photo.  I was 6 or 7 here and obviously not concerned with wearing appropriate clothing or roller skates that actually fit me (where are my pants? and that can't be safe).  I will, however, defend the puff painted teddy bear t-shirt and those heart shaped glasses.  I'm a girl who knows what she likes.

With that said, I'd like to bring attention to the re-appearance of these heart glasses in recent years and I'm happy to report you can still purchase them. (at planet blue for example)  Oh wait...they're SOLD OUT.  I guess people know a good thing when they see it.

love and sunshine,

Word on the street

Someone drew this chalk heart downtown near the bus station a while ago and I took its picture.  I forgot to post it alongside these  photos.  Please note the third blurry image of a young man painting.  He had set up a plein air easel and was creating the scene in front of him using a piece of splitting wood as his canvas.  I was inspired to paint on other things too on this day.  It's funny how this heart was surrounded by various profanities and a chalk drawing of a marijuana leaf (omitted for the sake of keeping it clean)

Love in the Lorenzo

My original idea for this blog was to seek out images of hearts and post them daily.  I would find these hearts around my life, such as passing a heart in the sand on a beach run.  I quickly realized this would limit what I'd put here so I changed my mind.  But I still love seeing things like this heart shaped rock arrangement below.  I snapped this while walking over a bridge downtown which links a park near the courthouse to the busier parts of SC.  It makes me wonder who decided to go down into the San Lorenzo river and do this.  I wonder...

The park I mentioned is consistently inhabited by the large homeless population in Santa Cruz.  There are usually people napping, pan handling, hula hooping (more common than you'd think) or yelling.  Maybe on this day, someone was feeling like sharing a little love instead.
hearts to you,

Little ideas

As a child I was encouraged by my artistic mother to be creative, resourceful, and inventive.  I was always looking for new uses for old things and ways to make things I wanted out of things I already had.  I was visiting with one of my favorite young friends the other day and she showed me some of her original jewelry designs including this one, a ring constructed from a brass brad and a plastic heart gem.  It's nice to see the excitement and pride that comes with making something pretty from an 8 year old's point of view.  Plus it's adjustable and who doesn't like red hearts? They go with everything.

Happy hour

Some days (some) I look forward to five o'clock so I can put on my running shoes and take my favorite familiar route to the beach. This is where I feel most relaxed and happy. Yesterday I captured a few images and I've placed them here for safekeeping...

I'm always on the lookout for blue seaglass and heart-shaped rocks. Maybe next time.
